| Why did you join this community of practice? As experts in complex crisis approaches, we follow all development in the field of conflict sensitivity, especially those in humanitarian relief contexts. We are specifically involved in the Middle East crises, where conflict sensitivity is a major concern with the increase of access problems and the related difficulties in terms of monitoring and evaluation. The Peace Exchange community is a precious source of information in terms of networking, research and best practices.
What have been some of your most interesting or challenging assignments?We find interest in all assignments that we choose! But to speak more specifically, the work we did for a French medical NGO, in 2016, was very challenging as we supported humanitarian intervention in the field of emergency medicine and surgery in the war affected areas of Iraq, following the Sinjar and Mosul battles. We assessed the needs, developed a strategy, wrote proposals and fundraised. Since then, we have supported the operational follow up, developing a completely new internal procedures manual. We have also been involved in the entire project cycle management, with a strong focus on conflict sensitivity. It has been a rich experience assessing precisely the field situation, analyzing the stakeholders (as the relationships between Yezidi and Arabic communities) and designing humanitarian answers to avoid the emergence of conflict as much as possible.
What trends are you noticing in your area of work?We are facing more and more difficulties related to humanitarian access. Without direct field access, and with more local partnerships for the projects’ implementation and with some new emerging modus operandi modalities as the cash based interventions, the questions of M&E and of conflict sensitivity must be seen as central components.
Do you have a go-to resource that you use in your daily work? If so, what is it and why is it useful? We have our own works and methodologies, but with new trends and the development of new technologies, we need to be at the forefront of what has been developed and tested. Resources, like the Peace Exchange community, are key for us to work as one in favor of the populations that we serve. |
